Kunihiko Ikuhara: Legend Collection Challenge

Kunihiko Ikuhara is known for his idiosyncratic style inas well as outside of the studio and is one of the most eccentric individuals in the industry. In addition to his cosplays of Sailor Marshttps://i.post.cc/TPJ2jpTd/KI7.jpg his signature style of stagelike presentation and humorously consistent iconography has become his calling card. His works feature both common but essential themes such as coming of age as well as progressive LGBTQ themes expressed either through allegories or intertextualityoften with the works of Kenji Miyazawahttps://anilist.co/staff/105101/KenjiMiyazawa or Haruki Murakamihttps://anilist.co/staff/287294/HarukiMurakami.
Ikuharas career began in 1986 when he joined Toei Animation and began to work under Junichi Satouhttps://anilist.co/staff/99002/JunichiSatou most notably on the international hit Sailor Moonhttps://anilist.co/anime/530/ taking over as Series Director during its second season Sailor Moon Rhttps://anilist.co/anime/740/. In 1996 he left Toei Animation citing a lack of creative control as the reason to form his own creative group BePapashttps://anilist.co/staff/97458/BePapas together with famous shoujo mangaka Chiho Saitouhttps://anilist.co/staff/97459/ChihoSaitou animator Shinya Hasegawahttps://anilist.co/staff/106529/ShinyaHasegawa writer Youji Enokidohttps://anilist.co/staff/100062/YoujiEnokido and producer Yuuichiro Ogurohttps://anilist.co/staff/195642/YuuichirouOguro. This group would produce the highly lauded and influential Revolutionary Girl Utenahttps://anilist.co/anime/440/ in 1997 and the movie Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Adolescence of Utenahttps://anilist.co/anime/441/ in 1999.
During the 2000s Ikuhara took a hiatus from directing anime only doing minor work such as storyboarding one episode of Diebusterhttps://anilist.co/anime/1002/. He returned to the directors chair with Penguindrumhttps://anilist.co/anime/10721/ in 2011 and has since remained active as a creator directing both Yurikuma Arashihttps://anilist.co/anime/20827/ and Sarazanmaihttps://anilist.co/anime/101261/.
