SPOILERS BEWARE The fourth and final season for the Higurashi anime titled Higurashi SOTSU is the shortest with a rather odd number of episodes but the answers arcs it brought were quite the treat. The first three episodes cover the Demon Revealing arc this first episode shows us that it was Satoko who injected Rena with Hinamizawa Syndrome causing her to act the way she did in the first episode of S3. This arc is essentially the answer arc to the first arc of S3 but from Satoko and Renas POVs its heavily implied that Rena wants Keiichi dead because she believes he saw Rinas dismembered remains. This arc focuses on Renas POV from the first arc back from S3 and this now explains Rika and Satokos deaths as well this is what one could regard as an answer arc to the question arc that was shown in the previous season. This arc also finally revealed that Rena does in fact overhear the conversation between Ooishi and Keiichi about herself which was shown in the very first arc of S1. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/917068396649123920/unknown.png The next three episodes cover the Cotton Revealing arc the first episode shows us the answer arc to the 2nd arc in S3 from Satokos perspective this time its Mion who was injected with Hinamizawa Syndrome and here we also see where Satoko got her gun from this arc will likely tie in to the penultimate arc of S3 where Satoko pulled out her gun at the end of that episode. Mion under the influence of Hinamizawa Syndrome kills Shion in this arc so my assumption thinking that it was Shion pretending to be Mion in the latter parts of this arc back in my S3 review just went out the window. During this arc the fingernail removal returns...but not to the graphic ways of the original Higurashi at least from the actual scene shown we saw the aftermath of the horrible ritual though this episode concludes the answer arc for this specific question arc slowly but surely we see that Rika is already being outsmarted by Satokos every move. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/917069468331548712/unknown.png The following five episodes cover the Curse Revealing arc this is the answer arc to the 3rd arc of S3 this season is really trying hard to redeem Teppei Hojo and well as sadistic as a yandere loli can be Satoko is making this season very entertaining. At this point Satoko really has become quite the actress now this is only one fragment but here the supposed abuse is all fabricated in order to make the Hojos look like outcasts when in reality its part of Satokos end goal. The 9th episode shows us how Ooishi comes down with Hinamizawa Syndrome which also brings me to a thought from Rikas last five proclaimed worlds shown in S3 I wonder if her killers were all injected with the drug by Satoko Im almost certain on that. Im also still having a really difficult time accepting this good hearted Teppei but...he is actually redeeming himself During this arc we learn that possessed Satoko is indeed another personality of herself similarly to Rika who also has her moments this episode confirms Satokos duel personality and how the real Satoko didnt want to kill her uncle whereas witch Satoko did and it seems like the latter has prevailed for now. By the end of this arc yet another perfect world is crushed by witch Satoko ensuring Rika dies before she kills herself here Hanyuu isnt as omnipotent as she may proclaim herself to be as its due to her flawed powers that Rika isnt able to remember the hours leading up to her death Hanyuu also cant view these fragments anymore. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/917070049280397373/unknown.png The final four episodes cover the God Entertaining arc the first episode shows us why the sword that slays loopers was missing simply Satoko was there faster but accidentally broke a piece off of it which is how Rika came to find the small piece she did at the end of the episode Hanyuu finally finds Eua. Also there was no need to censor graphic content since yes it is disturbing but its all in line with the nature of Higurashi and what made it even more question was the fact GOU wasnt censored so why is SOTSU? In the following episode we finally reach the point in the story when its Satokos birthday when she pulled out her gun so it is as of this point that Rika surely must now know that Satoko is also a looper. To much of my disappointment this arc ended right on the spot as Satoko simply shot Rika then herself. The 14th episode was an oddball in which Satoko and Rika fight against each over many fragments whilst trying to convince the other that the former is correct. The supernatural powers was totally out of Higurashis nature to be honest making it feel like I was watching a shounen instead. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/917070992860385380/unknown.png After four seasons and countless time loops and years our cast seem to have finally reached a happy end where no one has died the ending few mins are so wholesome a future they all fought for has finally been attained. Just seeing Satoshi wake up gives me the feels but too bad we didnt see the reunion we all know we wanted to see oh and the insert song of this episode is simply breathtaking thats all I will say. I knew the song You for a while before I watched Higurashi so when I heard it in an OVA it blew my mind and here we get to hear another version of it. In the end Im satisfied with the time leap that had occurred by the end of this season and I can safely say the Higurashi story has progressed drastically since S2 back then during the answer arcs Rika was able to reach a happy end by changing her fate but the happy end here feels so much more real. Looking at a mature Rika still seems odd to me but damn does she look stunning after growing up for only four years. Now I wonder if theres any more to Higurashi well time to read the VN at some point in the future now as well to see how much more details I can squeeze out from the original source compared to its adaption. For what this season was worth it may not have been perfect or even as good as the originals from over a decade ago but those last few mins of the final episode were truly special. If this is the end to Higurashi then Im satisfied. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/917072273054257253/unknown.png S1 Reviewhttps://anilist.co/review/14343 S2 Reviewhttps://anilist.co/review/14440 S3 Reviewhttps://anilist.co/review/14488
