SPOILERS BEWARE SSSS.Gridman didnt offer much in terms of making itself memorable to me. At the time of watching sure enough it was awesome initially but then you notice that this anime is simply the same events occurring time after time. There were various chances where the anime could have elaborated on the development of some characters but sadly in falls short in this department. For the majority of the season you are made to think Akane Shinjo who is essentially the God of this world is the villain that Yuta Gridman and his friends face but such is not the case. Akane is very fragile emotionally so it was Alexis who was able to take full benefit from her weak mentality and supposedly tricked her into designing kaiju that he could later awaken to cause chaos. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/920036045901402152/unknown.png Yuta whose backstory is later revealed that Gridman had been possessing his body hence Yuta couldnt remember anything when he initially woke up but even after Gridman left after accomplishing his mission it felt lacklustering to me that that was it for the development of Yuta. Rikka who gives off pretty strong kuudere vibes simply felt visibly bland for the most part she is pretty cold and emotionless so normally Im eager to get attached but I felt nothing here. I suppose she just existed? Then theres Utsumi who sure enough exists as Yutas friend and even he himself was lamenting how useless he was because well for the most part this is a factual statement. What was his purpose and what did he bring to the show? Sadly Im drawing blanks here. The side characters were alright I suppose and more interesting than the main cast here Calibur was certainly top notch dragging the comedy by himself throughout the show and Borrs gag of constantly kicking Utsumi also didnt get old surprisingly. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/920036518754668604/unknown.png After twelfth episodes of little lore and backstory to this universe and plenty of mecha fighting and countless Grid Beams later the anime ends and I just feelnothing really. The anime exists but serves not much purpose in making itself memorable. I suppose since I didnt really get attached to the characters here it was hard to be excited for their repetitive mecha fights it really did get tiresome. If were talking hitting or missing the spot then Gridman certainly missed my sweet spot. The main MC of the show I would argue is still Akane since the whole world is supposedly created by her and the main jist of the story revolves around her too she is one character that could shine to become a really solid character but it simply felt like she wasnt given enough padding necessary to truly feel attached to her. Gridman started off decently but drops off in the latter half where the episodes felt like wasted potential more than trying to achieve something worthwhile. The dream episode of Akanes perfect world may very well be the best episode here since it finally started conveying a nice backstory to how mentally fragile Akane was when her perfect world would suddenly start crumbling yet her reaction to it was very straightforward simply killing Gridmans true identity but why is she killing him? She mentions that he is the guest of her world which makes sense as he is likely the only entity that her kaiju didnt create but why kill him? The episode with the little girl kaiju that reveals to Yuta that Akane is a God was a nice lore episode yet the show doesnt really try to build on this and we never see that little kaiju again yet she delivered such valuable information. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/920037340280402001/unknown.png In the end Gridman just didnt click with me its an incredibly average anime at best with repetitive mecha fights that get tedious pretty quickly with a bland cast and wasted potential for some characters that could have stood out. What surprises me the most about this show is the fact its done by studio Trigger yet this art felt sooo normal When I think studio Trigger then I instantly think of their unique art style present in Kill la Kill or Little Witch Academia both shows have similar art and similar wacky chaotic nature which is what I grown to expect from Trigger yet Gridman felt so disappointedly mediocre. The worst part about Gridman is that the ending left me unsatisfied so what was the point of this anime again? What was the anime trying to tell me? I was visibly confused since I gathered that it focused on Akane but since her character didnt feel developed enough the ending left me somewhat unsatisfied. I will finish on the note that I stated above Gridman was disappointedly mediocre as it could have been so much better 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/920037937909989446/unknown.png Also yeah the final IRL scenes were pretty bizarre...was the whole show a dream? Did I even watch Gridman?
