"Herbivore" males in anime

Herbivore men or grasseater men is a term used in Japan to describe men who have no interest in getting married or finding a girlfriend. The term herbivore men was also a term that is described as young men who had lost their manliness. What do you think about this type of characters in anime? Do you think they are used just to preserve the purity of the female characters? I personally cant stand this type of main characters in anime to me they are just an annoying overused trope.
